This statement is made pursuant to section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps Bentley Designs has taken, and continues to take, to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking are not taking place within our business or supply chain.
Modern slavery encompasses slavery, servitude, human trafficking and forced labour. Bentley Designs has a zero-tolerance approach to any form of modern slavery. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity and transparency in all our business dealings, and to implementing effective systems and controls to safeguard against modern slavery.
Established in 1988, Bentley Designs is a leading supplier of quality furniture to the UK and Ireland. Our collections include wooden, upholstered, metal and stone products. We design and source dining, living and bedroom furniture.
Our wooden furniture is imported from our sister company in Vietnam, while our metal, stone and upholstered products are imported from China.
Bentley Designs recognises that the risk of modern slavery may be higher in certain countries and manufacturing sectors. We assess risk within our supply chain based on the nature of the products we source and the regions in which they are manufactured.
We focus our efforts on higher-risk areas of our supply chain and work closely with long-standing suppliers to ensure appropriate controls, audits and corrective actions are in place where required.
We operate a number of internal policies to ensure that we conduct our business in an ethical and transparent manner. These include:
Anti-Slavery Policy This policy sets out Bentley Designs’ position on modern slavery and explains how employees can identify any instances of concern and where they can go for help.
Recruitment Policy We operate a robust recruitment process, including eligibility to work in the UK checks for all employees, to safeguard against human trafficking or individuals being forced to work against their will.
Whistleblowing Policy Our whistleblowing policy enables employees to raise concerns about how colleagues are being treated, or about practices within our business or supply chain, without fear of reprisal.
Business Standards This outlines how we behave as an organisation and the standards we expect our employees and suppliers to uphold.
Relevant employees are made aware of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking, and of the procedures in place for identifying and reporting concerns through our internal policies.
Bentley Designs works with a limited number of suppliers. We require our suppliers to carry out routine ethical reporting, such as BSCI, SMETA and SEDEX audits, to ensure that ethical and moral standards are upheld.
On-site audits include reviews of working conditions, and where required, corrective action plans are implemented and monitored.
As part of our contractual arrangements with international suppliers, we require confirmation that:
They have taken steps to eradicate modern slavery within their business
They hold their own suppliers to account regarding modern slavery
They pay employees at least the prevailing minimum wage applicable within their country of operation
Bentley Designs may terminate the contract at any time should any instances of modern slavery come to light
We assess the effectiveness of the steps we take to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking by monitoring the following:
No reports have been received from employees, the public or law enforcement agencies indicating that modern slavery practices have been identified within our business or supply chain
